Worker Who Sustained Terrifying Fall Accepts $5,000,000 Settlement
The plaintiff was an ironworker who was dismantling the steel skeleton of a North Tonawanda ice rink when it collapsed due to the failure of the owner and general contractor to employ proper procedures. The plaintiff fell 55 feet, sustaining hip and spinal injuries due to the failure to provide required safety devices. Immediately after he fell, the structure strated collapsing down on top on him.

A cash settlement of $5 million was reached after a trial and an appeal by the defendants.
